FORMULA 1 CHINESE GRAND PRIX 2024

After four years, Shanghai returns to the F1 calendar in 2024 — and in a historic moment for China, the country’s first full-time F1 driver and Shanghai native Zhou Guanyu will race at home.

Located in the Jiading District, Shanghai International Circuit first hosted the FIA Formula 1 World Championship Chinese Grand Prix in 2004 and is an astonishing example of civil engineering. Costing USD $240 million to construct, the facility features two impressive towers overlooking the main start-finish straight. Given that the area was formerly marshland, it is an especially spectacular venue for a Grand Prix.

While the ‘bump’ on the main straight has been ironed out following Sebastien Buemi’s spectacular incident back in 2010, the 5.4KM circuit remains a big challenge for the team and drivers alike courtesy of the ever-shifting land below. Designed loosely on the Chinese character Shang, two long straights dominating the lap, especially the run to turn 14, the circuit always provides exciting racing with plenty of passing opportunities.
